“Music”是生活的調(diào)劑品，沒有“music”的生活是有所缺失的。然而，“Face the music”卻不是大家想象中的“面對音樂”。這個說法跟音樂并沒有什么關(guān)系，表達的意思是：“承擔(dān)后果”，面對現(xiàn)實或者處理一些現(xiàn)實狀況，接受所有的結(jié)果，不管是好是壞。但大多數(shù)情況下都是不太好的結(jié)果。有時候，也用來表示接受懲罰，接受某個行為帶來的直接后果。


 

這個短語來源于劇場。演員們在舞臺上表演時，就直接面對著樂池中的樂隊，在舞臺上，演員經(jīng)常會由于緊張或怯場而造成忘詞等尷尬的局面，只要音樂一響，演員就沒有任何選擇的余地，只能去face the music（必須承受出現(xiàn)的局面）。人們遂用face the music指承擔(dān)自己行為的后果。

 

Don't escape, you should face the music when you did something wrong.

別逃避，做了錯事就要勇于承擔(dān)后果。

After failing a math test, Tom had to go home and face the music.

數(shù)學(xué)考試掛掉了，Tom不得不回家接受懲罰。

He’s been cheating us out of our money for years, and now it’s time for him to face the music.

Mary broke a dining-room window, and had to face the music when her father got home.
